REPENTIGNY, QC<\/b> \u2014 The Government of Canada has announced a nearly $64 million investment to support 99 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Quebec\u2019s metal processing sector as they navigate challenges posed by international tariffs.<\/p>\n
The funding, totaling $63,969,920, was announced Tuesday by M\u00e9lanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED). The initiative is expected to create or maintain more than 1,100 high-paying jobs across the province.<\/p>\n
The investment is being delivered through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI). The program provides non-repayable contributions of up to $1 million to help businesses modernize their equipment, increase productivity, and diversify their markets to reduce reliance on regions affected by trade barriers.<\/p>\n
“In the face of unjustified and unjustifiable tariffs hitting Canadian businesses hard, our government is taking concrete action,” Minister Joly said during a visit to CSF International in Repentigny. “We are giving them the means to strengthen their supply chains and remain competitive in an uncertain commercial climate.”<\/p>\n
CSF International, a Lanaudi\u00e8re-based company, is among the recipients, receiving $1 million to acquire new equipment aimed at accelerating its international growth.<\/p>\n
This provincial support is part of a broader $6.5 billion national tariff response plan. The federal government has characterized these structural measures as essential for strengthening the resilience of the Canadian steel industry against global market fluctuations.<\/p>\n
The RTRI is a three-year, $1 billion national program designed specifically to assist SMEs that are negatively impacted by tariffs but are critical to regional economic vitality.<\/p>\n
