MARKHAM, Ontario — The International Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture Summit, alongside the 13th Canadian Registered TCM Practitioners and Acupuncturists Continuing Education Academic Conference, took place from August 29 to 30 in Markham, Ontario.
Jointly organized by Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine and the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (OCTCM), the hybrid event drew more than 180 practitioners and researchers in person and online from Canada, China, South Africa, Europe, and Brazil.
The two-day conference opened at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre before moving to the OCTCM campus for hands-on clinical workshops. The summit featured congratulatory messages from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, and representatives across all three levels of Canadian government. Officials in attendance included Qu Baoquan, Science and Technology Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto; Member of Parliament Michael Ma; Ontario Member of Provincial Parliament Aris Babikian; and Markham Deputy Mayor Michael Chan.
Keynote presentations and workshops addressed critical clinical topics, including stroke prevention, acupuncture for cervical spondylosis, classical herbal formulas, visceral massage (Zangfu Tuina), chronic pain management, and the integration of artificial intelligence into clinical education. Day two featured live practical sessions covering heritage bone-setting techniques, abdominal diagnosis, and scoliosis correction.

Now in its 13th edition, the annual conference serves as an international continuing education platform, enabling registered practitioners across Canada to fulfill their regulatory professional development requirements while staying abreast of emerging techniques and global research.
